IMPHAL January 20: The Aimol Tribe Union Manipur and the Aimol Sattu have today demanded a permanent police outpost at Ngairong Village.
Speaking at a press conference today at the Manipur Press Club, ATUM president RT Akhel Aimol of Tuikhang Aimol and Aimol Sattu general secretary Ch Ruitoilan said only four of the 15 Aimol villages desire to be Nagas.
Akhel said the four villages namely Chingnunghut, Sattu, Khunyai and Kumberei have a total population of just about 1500, while the total population of the Aimol is 7000.
Reacting to a rally demanding removing of security forces taken out yesterday in Chandel district, he said, “The rally by the pro-Naga groups was prevented from entering Aimol Khullen.
Kh Okhup of Aimol Khullen village and Village Chief, B Ruineireng of Chandonpokpi had a mutually agreeable meeting with unidentified people.”
There were only police and Manipur Rifles earlier at Ngairong Village but now there another 40 additional IRBs increasing the total no. to 60, he informed.
We have also met the concerned minister today requesting for a permanent out post at Ngairong considering the unrest and brewing tension in the area among the Aimol tribe, he said.
