Appeals and support for January 6 “Common future of Manipur” rally

IMPHAL January 27: The organising committee of the February 6 Mass Rally has appealed to all communities residing in the State to join the rally which is being organised on the theme “Common Future of Manipur.”

Speaking to media persons this afternoon at the United Committee Manipur office near the Lamphel Traffic Point, convenor of the organising committee Elangbam Johnson said the rally is for all communities residing together in the State and for their collective future.

He further urged all people to halt economic activities for the day and to come out and join the rally.

The rally will commenced at 9:30am from THAU ground, he said.

The rally after passing through Khuyathong, Nagamapal, Wahengbam Leikai, Keishampat, Sanjenthong, Minuthong Hatta and end at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium. A public meeting will also be held at the stadium.

The press conference was also attended by AMUCO president Dr Y Mani Khuman, organising committee finance convenor Chingkheingambi and publicity sub-committee YK Dhiren.

The Joint Students’ Cordinating Committee has also appealed to the people to participate in the February 6 mass rally organised by civil society organisations on the theme ‘Common Future of Manipur.’

JSCC representative Jayenta Kumar speaking to media persons at the Students Union of Kangleipak said the NSCN (IM) an the Government of India have been on a ceasefire since 1997 punctuated by signing of a peace accord on August 3, 2015.

He added despite of several representations submitted to the government of India to reveal the nature of the framework of agreement, the points are yet to be declared to the public.

Since the government has failed to provide a white paper on August 5 2015 peace accord, the public rally is being organised on February 6, he added.

The rally will start from TAU ground at 9am and proceed till Khuman Lampak.

The JSCC will also support the rally organised by the UCM, AMUCO and CCSK.

He further appealed to the student community, sports persons to participate in the rally and request all educational institutes including nursing institutes to reschedule any exams or test accordingly.

Meanwhile, several other organisations have also expressed support of the proposed February 6 rally.

In separate press releases, the United All Communities’ Social Up-lipters, Kangleipak;Ching-Tam United Women’s Association; Kanglei Chanura Chaokhat Lamching Lup, The Singjamei Apunba Nupi Lup and the All Manipur Progressive Farmers’ Association have all expressed support of the rally.
