AR recovers arms and ammunition, inaugurates a Volleyball ground

Assam Rifles recovers Arms and Ammunition (2)_800x450IMPHAL, January 9: Troops of the 2 Assam Rifles and 12 BIHAR of 9 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) recovered arms and ammunition in a joint operation in the general area Bunghal Khullen of Thoubal district on January 7, said  a PRO IGAR (South) press release.

It said, during the search operation, a suspected item was found hidden next to house of Khaisat Haokip, 55, son of Lamkai Haokip of Bunghal Khullen, and on further search the team recovered one AK-56 Rifle and two Magazines along with 60 live rounds of 7.62mm.

Upon detailed search along with Thoubal Commandos, there was recovery of fifty four live rounds of 7.62mm, forty seven live rounds of 7.62mm Sniper Rifle 47, one magazine of 7.62mm AK-56 Rifle, one magazine of 5.56mm of M 16 Rifle and five live rounds of 5.56mm of M 16 Rifle. Search of living room of the Lelen Kipgen was also carried out after unlocking it in presence of villagers, as the room was locked and owner of the house was missing. The joint team there after recovered one seal of KNF (N), Demand letter for extortion by KNF (N) and documents pertaining to KNF (N), said the press release.

It said, the recovered items were handed over to Yairipok Police station and FIR has been lodged against the owners of the house Lelen Kipgen and Khaisat Haokip.

Newly constructed volleyball ground inaugurated by 2 Assam Rifles_800x600Meanwhile, a newly constructed Volleyball ground was inaugurated by Brigadier V T Mathew, Commander, 9 Sector Assam Rifles, and a friendly football match between the teams of 2 Assam Rifles and Leihaoram football team was organised in order to instill a sense of competitiveness and camaraderie, said the press release.

It said, the grand ceremony which was organised by 2 Assam Rifles was held at village Leihaoram wherein several representatives of civil administration including village chairman and locals attended the function with great zeal and enthusiasm.

Conveying his heartfelt best wishes to the villagers, the Commander conveyed that Assam Rifles is deeply committed towards the progress of the remote villages in terms of sports infrastructure and facilities, said the press release.
