Chandel, January 19: The Aimol Tribe Union Manipur and Aimol Numei Waar organized a protest rally today in protest against the alleged abduction of two villagers including a village chief of Aimol Chandonpokpi and attempting to abduct another villager by suspected militants last night.
Several villagers including women folks took out the protest rally from the village gate of Chingnunghut and proceeded towards Aimol Khullen village via Aimol Tampak and Khodamphai villages by holding several placards and raising slogans against the State Security Forces.
During the rally, several placards inscribed with the slogans “We want peace don`t disturbed in our land, we condemn 18/1/2016 event in Aimol area, we want peace, Go back anti social elements from Aimol area, Go back UMLA, UKLF, KNA from Aimol Area, Go back Manipur State Forces from Aimol area immediately” were displayed.
However, another group of women folk along with the villagers of Aimol Khullen prohibited the protestors and prevented them to proceed through the village.
But there is no report of any untoward incident happens to the both parties during the stand off.
Speaking to the media persons, R. Shialloa, secretary ATUM told that the people of Aimol strongly condemned last night incident in which innocent villagers including the Chief of Aimol Chandonpokpi were abducted by some suspected militants.
And how comes the militants entered the villages and abducted the villagers while State security forces stationed at the nearby village patrolled the area, he questioned.
Demanding immediate removal of State Security Forces, the secretary also maintained that what is the use of keeping them if they fail to provide security to the villagers.
He also maintained that in the 90`s, KDF and KNA cadres forcibly entered in our villages and tortured our people by demanding pigs and rice.
S. Chongkipning, secretary of Aimol Numei Waar also said that last night incident was not the first time, last year too, the Assam Rifles at the instigation of UKLF killed innocent villagers. And many unwanted incidents happened and several problems arises within our tribe. But we done whatever we could and fought back befittingly, she added.
She further maintained that despite the presence of Manipur State Forces, UKLF cadres entered in our area and abducted innocent villagers last night.
They abducted one Okhup of Aimol Khullen and went to Chandonpokpi for abducting the Village Authority Secretary. But the militants abducted the Village Chief after they fail to kill the Secretary of Chandonpokpi Village Authority, added Chongkipning.
While expressing dissatisfaction over the incident, Secretary of Numei Waar demanded removal of the State security forces and other UG groups including the UKLF from the area.
