BJP candidate Tombi remanded to police custody

BISHNUPUR, January 18: BJP candidate in the recently held local bodies election from Ningthoukhong Ward no 1 A Tombi, her son Dipak and a daughter who were arrested by the Bishnupur Police yesterday for alelged involvement in a post-poll violence, were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Bishnupur today.

The court remanded the three members to police custody till January 25.

Tombi’s another daughter Sonia, was brought later to the court as she is admitted at a hospital.

She was asked to get medical treatment and appear before the court tomorrow.

According to the OC Bishnupur Police Station Rishikesh Sharma, Tombi and her family members were arrested under IPC 367/326/354/34 for assaulting a worker of INC candidate, namely Laishram Sorojini.

He said that a case under FIR No 9 (1)/2016/Bpr PS was registered against the family members in connection with the incident.

It may be mentioned that Commerce & Industries Govindas Konthoujam had allegedly slapped Dipak inside Bishnupur Police Station on January 17 following a post-poll violence.
