BJP convenes emergency meeting as former DGP’s name mentioned in cop’s confession

IMPHAL, January 28: The BJP Manipur Pradesh today convened an emergency meeting on the issue of former DGP Y Joykumar’s name coming up in the confession of Manipur Police head constable Thounaujam Herojit on the sensational July 23, 2009 BT Road killing which was carried by the Indian Express.

Sources said the meeting held at the party office was chaired by president in charge I Mangiton and was attended by executive committee members, core committee members and BJP Uripok Mandal official.

The meeting was called as the former DGP had enrolled himself in the party through the online membership drive, it said.

It is also learnt that the party resolved to take the matter seriously and to further discuss what penalty could be taken up against the former DGP if the allegations come out true. The meeting however, failed to come to any resolution in regards to taking action against the former DGP, according to the source.

Sources also informed that party workers of the BJP Uripok Mandal have raised voice seeking the party authorities to expel Joykumar from party membership to save the party’s image.

Meanwhile, a party insider has informed that the BJP State unit has asked the Uripok Mandal to issue a membership cancellation notice against Joykumar so that the State unit could take appropriate steps.
