IMPHAL, January 15: BJP Manipur president Th Chaoba said the results of the January 11 polls in 18 Municipal Councils and eight Nagar Panchayat shows that the BJP is enjoying the public support.

Speaking to media persons in the evening at the party office, Chaoba said the 49 BJP candidates have already been declared winners, while 93 Congress candidates have won. This is a major win for the party considering the fact that the BJP had none in the previous election.

It may be mentioned that by the end of the day counting of votes, the Congress was leading with 105 seats followed by independents at 85 and BJP at 60 seats.

Chaoba claimed that although the Congress is leading, it has failed to win majority in many of the Councils and Nagar Panchayats.

The Congress has failed to win even 1/3rd of the total seats on offer, he said claiming that the Congress will not win more seats.

Chaoba said his party has secured majority in the Municipal Councils of Mayang Imphal, Lamlai, Kakching Khunou and Nambol.

It is major success that the BJP has won majority in Mayang Imphal which is the home constituency of the Works minister, he said, adding further that the BJP has won seven seats of the Mayang Imphal Municipal Council while the Congress managed to win only two. Four other independent candidates who had formed a pre-poll alliance with the BJP has also emerged winners in Mayang Imphal, he added.

This certainly shows that the Modi wave has reached Manipur, Chaoba claimed.

He added at the Kakching Khunou Nagar Panchayat, the BJP has won six seats of the nine.

This is the people win against the Congress, he said.

He continued now the BJP is confident of winning maximum in the coming IMC election in the month of May.

With the recent damages of the Ima Market during the recent earthquake, the Congress is trying to save its face, but there is no future for it in the State, he said.

Thangmeiband MLA Joykishan said the result is a pointer to the Congress’ downfall in the State and the BJP’s shinning.

It is surprising that although the BJP managed to secure wins in its stronghold areas, the Congress has failed to secure theirs, he said.

BJP will continue the winning momentum till the 2017 State Assembly election, the MLA said.

The results, Thongju MLA Th Bishwajit said has shown the public’s intolerance of the Congress rule in the State.

In the past as there was no alternative political party against the Congress, people were forced to suffer incompetent rule of the Congress for long, he said.

This has also shown that we were able to reach out to the grass-root level, he added.

We hope that the people of the State will also endorse the changing political scenario in the country and bring development and good governance in the State in the near future, he said.

The press meet was also attended RK Ranjan. The party also warmly received its successful candidates at the party office today.
