Boy injured in AR-unidentified men fracas in Tamenglong recovering well

IMPHAL, January 8: The 13-year old boy Edwin who was hit by a bullet on December 11, 2015 morning during a fracas between personnel of the Assam Rifles and unidentified miscreants is recovering well following help from the Assam Rifles.

IFP visited the boy identified as Edwin Maring son of N Jacob a havildar of the 15th Assam Regiment at his residence at Veaulahram Village, Tengnoupal Police Station.

According to family members, a bullet which pierced through their house wall on the fateful day hit the boy on his stomach. The bullet was lodged inside his stomach, they said, adding that he was rushed to the Jivan hospital, Kakching.

After his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to Shija Hospitals where he was operated upon to take out the bullet, an aunt said.

She also said that now his condition is stable and he is out of danger.

She continued the 26 Sector Assam Rifles bore the amount for the boy’s operation and treatment at the Shija Hospital which amounted to around Rs 1.5 lakhs.

Not only this, but the AR also constructed a new kitchen for the family, provided two gas connections and constructed a wall fencing around the house, she said.

The AR has also provided some monetary help for the treatment of Edwin’s father Jacob at a Kolkata hospital.

Further according to the family members, the 26 sector AR, Pallel has also provided eggs and milk for Edwin and at the same time sending a doctor for regular check-up of the boy.

At the same time, the family members lamented that such incident should not be repeated.

Expressing apprehension that Edwin could end up being physically handicapped, they said Edwin being a boy wants to run and play but is unable to do so now.

They further added that security personnel in civilian dress should not carry out their activities in residential areas as such incidents create confusions among the general public.

Meanwhile, 26 sector AR/ Pallel additional DIG has assured before the IFP that Edwin will be admitted free of cost in an AR school free of cost from this academic session.
