IMPHAL, January 3: Exhorting students to deeply concentrate in studies rather than indulging in other activities so as to maintain quality education in the State, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam urged the student community to stay focused on the right path in the pursuit of quality education.
The Dy CM was speaking at the 14th foundation day celebration of Democratic Students`™ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) held at GP Women`™s College today.
Speaking as chief guest, Gaikhangam advised students to stick to discipline and not get swayed away by outside sources.
He pointed out that some pseudo individuals are spewing venom to create animosity amongst the different communities, which the people should be aware of.
By manipulating and distorting the history of the State, some vested persons are trying to disintegrate the State, he continued.
Appreciating DESAM for its efforts towards quality education and inculcating discipline among the students, the Dy CM appealed to the student community to realize what is the need of the hour and act according to it and learns from failures for a better tomorrow.
No religion has ever taught people to hate and become violent, he said, adding that respecting and listening to each other will bring unity and peace in the society.
President of DESAM Moirangthem Angamba who was present at the occasion said that a new education system is needed to facilitate development in the society.
He declared that the student body will be launching an education campaign to bring a change in the education system.
Apparent failure in the education sector has led to misunderstanding amongst the people, he observed.
Angamba also said that there is a need to imbibe sense of emotional integration amongst the ethnic communities as this will bring in unity and peace in the State.
During the occasion, four teachers were conferred with the Chingu Maichou Khongnang Thana Award in recognition of their dedicated services towards education.
The award carries a cash amount of Rs 5000, shawl and citation.
As part of the programme, Dy CM Gaikhangam inaugurated a mega blood donation camp wherein more than 100 students donated blood.
Representatives of various student organizations, principal of GP Women`™s College and Director of Myanmar Studies, Manipur University were present at the foundation day celebration as guests of honour.
