IMPHAL, January 8: “It is surprising and at the same time incomprehensible why the government is yet to take up any emergency actions despite a five-storey building collapsing right on top of my residence damaging several rooms including my kitchen and chamber,” lamented senior government advocate public prosecutor (High Court) Manipur RS Reisang today.

Speaking exclusively to IFP, Reisang said PWD assistant engineer RK Lansana’s five-storey building adjacent to his residence at Kabaw Leikai, Dewlahland had collapsed during the January 4 earthquake and fell directly on top of his residence damaging his kitchen, chamber and stairs.

Due to the impact of the fall, cracks have also appeared on his building, he claimed.

The fallen structure of the five storey building has been held up and supported by iron chains using three mechanical cranes, while the debris is being cleared using a JCB, he said.

He said since, the collapsed portion of the building is yet to be remove, his family is taking shelter somewhere else till now.

Although it is already five days since the earthquake jolted the State, there has been help in the rescue operation from the side of the government, he lamented.

He said he has rented out the cranes and the JCB to clear the debris.

Further according to the senior government advocate, a State PWD team had, however, come yesterday and after checking his residence had told him that since the building collapsed on top of his house, many cracks have appeared on it and as such it would have to be demolished and reconstructed anew.

He further appealed to the government to provide machinery and labourers to expedite the work and re-settle his family.
