Governor meets school heads to discuss state of education

IMPHAL, January 18: Governor of Manipur V Shanmuganathan today interacted with higher secondary school principals and high school head masters/head mistresses of Imphal East today at Raj Bhawan in connection with the standard of education in the state.

A statement issued by the Directorate of Information and Public Relation stated that V Shanmuganathan importantly inquired about the strength of students and teachers, classes etc. and the reason for the dying of the government schools in Manipur.

It said that the Governor was surprise when he was informed that some schools in Imphal East has number of students equal to strength of teachers and reverse.

Subsequently, the Governor also reportedly asked for the reason of the same and suggestion too for improvement of education system, it said.

The teachers also reportedly told that the mushrooming growth of private schools in and around the Government schools with good infrastructure, authority’s wrong transfer policy, teachers’ irregularity in attendance, teachers’s different interest other than teaching profession etc. are the reason for dying of Government schools. Apart from these, they informed other problems being faced by their schools also.

Later, the Governor also had another interaction session with vice-Chancellors, register and Deans of Manipur University, Central Agricultural University and Manipur Cultural University.

V Shanmuganathan appealed to the participants for concerned and heroic act at the time of need especially both for the betterment of students and education, it said and added altogether 26 schools’ representatives were participated.
