Govt announces Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for deceased

IMPHAL, January 4: The State government has declared an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for those who lost their lives in today’s earthquake.

The announcement came following an emergency meeting of the State Cabinet convened today around 11 am in connection with the earthquake.

Addressing a press meet at his office chamber located at North Block Secretariat here today, CAF & PD and Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro said that the earthquake claimed six persons in different districts besides injuring around 69 people.

He informed that the injured people are receiving treatment at RIMS, JNIMS and private medical centres.

Relief & Disaster Management teams, military, para military and State forces have been alerted to tackle the situation in the aftermath of the fatal earthquake, the Minister said.

Further announcing that the government will bear medical expenses for the injured persons, Okendro said that the concerned district administrative officers have been notified to assess the loss incurred in the earthquake.

They have been asked to submit detailed report in this regard at the earliest, he added.

The Minister also made an announcement that owners of vendors at Phouoibi and Emoinu market sheds will soon have alternative arrangement.

It is learnt that there are approximately 1335 vendors at Phouoibi market shed and 750 vendors at Emoinu market shed.
