KANGPOKPI, January 7: The Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai (KISG) today strongly hold responsible the Manipur Development Society (MDS) for the collapse of Tribal Market Complex at Saikul in the recent Earthquake and demanded construction of new Tribal Market Complex without delay.
Speaking to media persons at Saikul Hill Town this evening, Thangkam Lupheng, president, Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai said that the Tribal Market Complex at Saikul was constructed by Manipur Development Society (MDS) while its inauguration for public use is barely one year.
“The complex which was constructed at a cost of nearly Rs 4 crores crumbled to the ground during the recent earthquake”, the KISG president claimed while adding that it shows low quality maintenance in the construction and laxity on the part of MDS.
He also said that the people in Saikul area were deeply disappointed over the short existence of the Tribal Market Complex building.
He further said that though the complex stood for a short while it provided various source of income to the underprivileged people of Saikul in many ways while adding that the destruction of the complex will severely affect the people.
Therefore, the Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai urged the State government to investigate the construction and destruction of the complex and punish those found guilty, he added.
The Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai also demanded the state Government to sanction for construction of new tribal market complex from any available funds and initiate construction of the same immediately for the welfare of the people of Saikul and its adjoining areas.
