KANGPOKPI, January 4: The destructive earthquake that swept across the State in the early morning also damaged numerous residential houses besides inflicting injuries to many people.
Koubru hill range mainly dominated by Kuki and Nepali community were the worst affected by the natural calamity.
More than 12 residential houses were partially damaged at Songpehjang village under Saitu Assembly Constituency while two houses were completely wrecked.
Maohing Nepali village under Tadubi A/C also witnessed destruction with many residential houses damaged.
In Kangpokpi A/C, eight houses excluding partly shatter houses were completely damaged at Gopibung and Manedara while two cows were reportedly died at Manedara.
Five houses at Setikhola and 18 houses at Santolabari were also shattered by the earthquake.
While 28 houses were wholly damaged at Parsian village, five houses at Tokpa village were completely wrecked.
In Keithelmanbi village, one residential house belonging to Kaingul Sitlhou was completely shattered and another belonging to Chinlam Doungel suffered damage in the quake.
Many residential houses at Kalapahar area were also reportedly damaged.
Fortunately, no human casualties were reported from Kangpokpi AC in Sadar Hills.
Whereas in Saitu A/C, eight houses including a church building at W Buning village were damaged while five houses at Bollen village; two at Salem village; three at Tuipajang village; two at C.H. Ollim village and four including a church kitchen at Joujang village also suffered destruction.
While another eight houses including a church building were damaged at S. Buning village, an aged woman identified as Nengvah Haokip, 80 wife of Late Jangkholun Haokip of S. Haijang in Churachandpur but presently staying at S. Buning village sustained severe injuries when the residential houses collapsed in the incident.
Three houses at Sapormeina village were damaged. One aged man identified as Vanghen Singsit sustained severe injuries in his hands, head and legs.
Many houses at Chalbung and Luwangsongol village were also reportedly destructed by the earthquake.
In Saikul A/C, one residential house at Makokching village was completely destroyed, inflicting severe injuries to the whole family members including a minor and pregnant woman who have been admitted at RIMS Hospital in critical condition.
The Tribal Market Complex constructed at an estimated cost of nearly Rs 4 crores under TA & Hills Department recently was critically damaged. The sudden occurrence of the natural calamity also shattered office of the Saikul Hill Town Committee.
18 houses at Maibung Likli village and one at Khokon village also suffered destruction in the earthquake.
