Many including State Governor mourn earthquake victims

IMPHAL, January 5: Several sections of the society including the Governor V Shanmuganathan, has expressed their deepest condolence and shares the sorrow for the deaths and lost suffered by the State in Monday’s Earthquake.

A statement issued by the Governor’s secretariat, stated that the Governor has expressed his deep shock to learn of the death of 6 people, injury to about 60 people and extensive damage to property in the unprecedented earthquake which took place in the early hour of Monday and sincerely condoled the sad incident which was totally beyond our control.

The Governor conveyed his deepest condolences and shares the grief of the family members of the victims both expired and injured, it said.

“May God give the family members of the victims the strength to bear this irreparable loss with courage and fortitude and pray for the departed soul to rest in peace and quick recovery of thouse injured persons,” it quoted.

The Manipuri Students Federation (MSF), CPI (ML) Liberation Manipur State Committee, Centre for Research and Advocacy, Manipur (CRAM), International Relief for Disaster Manipur (IRDM), Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) Directorate of AYUSH, also expressed its condolences to the family of victims both expired and injured of Monday’s earthquake.

In a statement the MSF has lauded the swift responses from the Government of Manipur and other sections in handling the quake hit Manipur.

It said that even as the Government often announces compensation through the media for those who have suffered lost during the calamities yet some are left high and dry.

It appealed the authority concerned that this time the Government keep its word to restore the relationship between the public and the Government.

An emergency meeting of the officers and officials working under Directorate of AYUSH, Lamphelpat and Integrated AYUSH Hospital, Lamphelpat was held today at 11 am at the Directorate with the Director in the chair.

In a statement issued by the Director, stated that the members present in the meeting deeply condoled the untimely death of 8 individuals in yesterday’s earthquake by standing two minutes in silent.

It said that the meeting unanimously resolved to constribute one day pay of all the officers and officials working under the department of AYUSH Government of Manipur towards the ‘Chief Minister’s Relief fund, Manipur Imphal’ as a sincere help for the earthquake victims.
