IMPHAL, January 8: Citing failure of the Manipur University authorities to meet their demands within the set deadline, the Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) announced a boycott of the Vice Chancellor and Registrar of the university as well as locked down their offices today.

Speaking to media persons, MUSU president Thingsubam Manglemton said the university authorities have failed to bring an amicable solution surrounding the argument of MA Education and M Ed within the set deadline of January 7.

The boycott will continue until the authorities concerned bring a solution to the impasse, he said appealing to the authorities to act accordingly and bring a solution at the earliest.

The student body, he said is also demanding termination of a guest lecturer of who was appointed in the MA Education department one year before the issue surfaced.

He said while the Equivalent Committee formed by the university authorities continue to remain non-functional, the authorities are also neglecting the issue even though the MA Education department has been protesting since December 30.

He said the issue came to the fore after the MA Education announced that a degree in M Ed is not equal to a degree in MA Education.

Amidst such an impasse, it is wrong to appoint a guest lecturer in the MA Education department, he claimed.

He further said that the M. Ed is a professional qualification quite different in approach and content to MA Education which is purely academic. The M Ed is practical based and the two degrees are different from each other, he added.
