IMPHAL, January 15: The State government is putting its best efforts to meet the aspirations of the teachers so that the latter bring out good students in the State, Manipur Education minister Moirangthem Okendro said today.
Speaking at the 35th foundation day celebration of the All Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturer’s Welfare Association at the Gandhi Memorial Hall today, the minister said despite of all the efforts of the State government to appease the teachers, some of them are unable to understand the effort and go to the court for any issue which has only hindered the government’s efforts.
He urged the teachers to go to the court on the simplest issue.
He said a good teacher will produce good students who in return will bring good to the society.
This will only encourage good governance, he asserted.
Stressing on the efforts of the government, he said the Education department is trying to regularly release the salaries of the teachers, at the same time, the department is also trying to create more posts and to regularise the contractual teachers.
He elaborated in 2014, altogether 933 posts of higher secondary teachers were newly created of which 716 were reserved for the contractual teachers of many years.
The remaining 217 were to be recruited through the Manipur Public Service Commission; however, amidst the government sincere effort to recruit teachers, some of the teachers went to the court for some reason, he said.
Regularising contractual teachers is one desire of the government, he said.
Meanwhile, the minister also said that since the establishment of the ‘Team Education’ by the department there has been some improvement in the education sector.
Okendro further lauded the 26 students selected from the government schools for the “Asha gi Mangal” for IT training.
He continued proper infrastructure will be provided to all schools.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has invested more funds for TG Higher Secondary and Johnston Higher Secondary to develop the schools for the welfare of students, he added.
