IMPHAL, January 31: The Organizing Committee of the ‘Mass Rally for a Common Future of Manipur’ has appealed to the All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM) and the Kuki Students’ Organization (KSO) to call off their indefinite highway bandh to commence from midnight of February 1 considering the rally.
Speaking to media persons today at the UCM office, convenor of the committee, Elangbam Johnson appealed to ANSAM and KSO to call off the bandh which will affect the people coming to attend the mass rally.
He further appealed to all student organisations and CSOs of both the hills and the valley to join the rally and cooperate in making the February 6 mass rally a success.
He said the organising committee acknowledge that the indefinite bandh has been imposed allegedly against government neglect in education sector in the hills; however, it will also affect those coming to attend the rally, he added.
He further appealed to the people including government employees to cease all their activities and attend the rally.
The rally is being organised to show the strength and sentiments of the general public to the Government of India, he said.
He said the rally under the banner “No one should compromise with the integrity of Manipur, the Government of India should know the history of Manipur, Let us all shed communal sentiments and strengthen oneness and unity” is being organised for the betterment of the State.
The general public including students by leaving aside all difference should participate in this crucial rally which will show the unity of the people, he added.
Johnson also appealed to the MLAs, ministers, police personnel, medical departments for full cooperation during the rally.
The general people should take the initiative to make the rally a grand success, he said.
People should not consider whether the organising committee managed to reach their area during the campaigning for the rally, he added.
He further appealed to the owners of private vehicles to bring out their vehicles voluntarily for the transportation of people from every nook and corner of the State on this day.
Meanwhile, the Citizens Committee, Manipur has extended its full support to the mass rally and said in a press release that the CCM urges the organisers to ensure participation of all the communities of Manipur and respect their aspirations.
It has also appealed to all apex organisations of respective communities to whole-heartedly participate in the rally.
