Sagolband MLA encourages quake proof structures for minimal damage

IMPHAL, January 10: Natural calamities like earthquakes never come knocking and even with so much development in science, there is still no device to forecast earthquakes, Sagolband MLA RK Imo said at his residence during an informal meeting with locals of his constituency today.

He said it will be wise to construct all structures with proper engineering keeping in mind the vulnerability of the place to earthquakes and other natural calamities.

Such natural calamities are beyond human control and it is unfortunate that some politicians are trying to take political mileage from the sufferings of the people, he said, indicating to demands for CBI or NIA investigations on the damages of the earthquake.

He said everyone should come out united in this time of distress and help the victims of the recent quake.

Addressing the people of his constituency, he said some parts of his constituency is facing acute shortage of potable water supply mainly due to leakages.

During the 2012-13 period, he said, as an MLA he could avail only Rs 86 lakhs from the PHED for laying of pipelines for supply of potable water and had to contribute Rs 25 lakhs from his own pocket to repair pipelines in his constituency.

He said people who don’t possess ration cards under the APL or BPL may also avail rice upto 5 kgs per month at APL rate.

He continued under the leadership of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, the State government will soon be able to implement the Food Security Act by March following which rice will be available at subsidised rate.

He continued all accounts related to development works during his tenure as the local MLA are open to anyone willing to check it.

He said the government is yet to sanction around Rs 2 crore which has already been used for developmental works.

He further wished the best and a prosperous year for the State.
