IMPHAL, February 1: Authorities of the Manipur Central Jail have submitted a written appeal to the Metropolitan Magistrate Patiala House Court complex to set new dates for the physical appearance of Irom Chanu Sharmila, according to reliable sources.
Sources informed that the appeal was submitted today.
It is also learnt that atleast seven staff are required to accompany Sharmila on her trip for the court appearance in the national capital including three staff of the medical, two staff each of Jail and Police and the total expenditure of the journey, including lodging, fooding and travel expenses amounts to around Rs 1.40 lakh.
According to the sources, the Jail authorities had communicated with the concerned State Home department and the Finance department to sanction the required amount at the earliest.
However, since the required amount was not sanctioned in time, Sharmila cannot be produced before the court on the set dates and as such the jail authorities have appealed to the court for new dates, informed the sources.
It may also be mentioned that Sharmila’s previous appearance before the court on December 15 and 16, 2015 had to be cancelled due to failure of the State Health Services, Manipur to issue any medical fitness certificate.
