IMPHAL, February 16: Irate grade IV contract workers of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, RIMS today stormed the Administration Block of the institute today demanding regularisation of their service and to increase their monthly salary.
Some representatives of the protesting contract workers also met with the RIMS authority later in the day.
Speaking to media persons on condition of anonymity, one of the protesting workers said about 289 grade IV workers are engaged as contract workers in RIMS for more than 25 years, however, the authorities have failed to regularise their services yet.
He said they are disappointed that no provision has been included for them in the recent recruitment notification of 134 regular posts of grade IV posts.
He further claimed that the MS had recently given them verbal assurance to regularise their service in case of any post vacancies.
He continued in case the authority concerned fails to translate their demands, the workers will intensify their agitation which may include closing down of OPD and the Administrative Block.
