IMPHAL, February 17: The root cause of every problem facing Manipur comes from corruption and the Congress is the origin of corruption, BJP Manipur president Th Chaoba said during a reception function of the newly formed BJP Sekmai Nagar Panchanyat Council today.
Addressing the function at the Sekmai Community Hall, Chaoba said Sekmai is a historical place of the Schedule Caste people which has been neglected for the last 15 years by the Ibobi Singh led Congress government.
Elaborating further, he said the government still doesn’t have a proper plan for reconstruction of the Sekmai Market shed.
All developments are confined only in Thoubal district; however, development of Thoubal only will not mean that Manipur is a developed State, he asserted.
On a lighter note, it is good that the government had not taken up reconstruction of the Sekmai Market, or else it would have been already damaged by the recent earthquake, he said indicating to the recent damaged of the Ima markets in the January 4 earthquake.
Chaoba said the damages suffered by the market buildings are due to corruption and resultant failure to maintain quality during construction.
Asking whether the people get their PDS items properly, he said the local MLA continues to maintain silence in the Assembly sessions.
He charged that the sitting MLA and the previous councillors have been signing documents stating that their areas are receiving PDS items.
If the present MLA fails to speak up regarding the plights of the Sekmai people during the coming Assembly session, people should still give him a chance to be the candidate in the next election, but if he fails to do so, he should himself drop contesting the next election, Chaoba said.
BJP SC Morcha Manipur president A Oken said today will be marked in the history of the land as even though the BJP won highest number of councillors, the Congress had interfered in the formation of the Nagar Panchayat council by filing a writ petition to the High Court of Manipur.
However, the court has ruled in favour of BJP for the formation of the Sekmai NP council, he added.
Under the guidance of BJP Manipur president Th Chaoba, the party will bring good governance in the State, he said, and further appealed to all Sekmai BJP Mandal workers to work unitedly and bring a change in Sekmai.
He said we should be united in supporting BJP candidates in the next general election and fighting Congress to defeat corruption.
Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykishan said during the rule of Congress led UPA in the Centre, the maximum amount allocated for the development of the National Highways in the State was just Rs 100 crore while during its brief rule in the Centre, the BJP led NDA has also allocated Rs 11oo crores for the development of the highways.
However, the Ibobi led government in the State is still trying to misuse the funds and is unable to properly utilise the funds allocated, he claimed.
Joykishan further challenged Sekmai MLA Deven that how much development funds in the coming supplementary plan budget he can assure to the people of his constituency.
