DGP Khoute talks to his Nagaland counterpart on NSF ban of Meitei Manipuri Vehicles

IMPHAL, February 23: In the wake of the Naga Students’ Federation’s ban on vehicles belonging to Meiteis/ Manipuris, Manipur Director General of Police LM Khoute had talked with his Nagaland counterpart Leng Doungel on the phone and relayed his apprehension over the threat.

According to a reliable source, Khoute is said to have asked Doungel to take up all possible measures to ensure no unwanted incident occur to vehicles with Manipur registration plying along the Imphal-Dimapur highway in Nagaland.

Reliable sources also informed that in a second phone conversation with Doungel, the Manipur DGP had asserted that the Manipur Police personnel had not assaulted nor detained the NSF members.

The police personnel had only asked them to get down from their vehicle for routine checking and frisking, but the NSF members failed to immediately comply, Khoute had told Doungel, according to the source.

Khoute asked his counterpart to talk to the NSF leaders and make them understand as not to cause any unwanted incident between the people of the two States, informed the source.

DGP Leng on his part assured that he has already talked to the NSF and efforts are on to pacify them, it said.
