IMPHAL, February 13: Students of the DM College of Arts demonstrated in front of the college gate against an official order transferring 13 of their teachers to other colleges today.
The agitating students have also warned to launch other forms of agitation including class boycott if the government fails to withdraw the order within February 16.
Speaking to media persons, general secretary of the students union of the college Keisham Dilip Kumar said the transfer order of many experienced teachers has come at such a time when the students are suffering from shortage of teachers.
This is gross injustice to the students, he asserted.
According to Dilip, the teachers included in the transfer list include four English, two Political Science, one Geography, two History, two Economics, one Mathematics and one Education teachers.
He asserted these teachers are not only well qualified but have been taking active roles in the development of the students of the college.
Claiming the official transfer order to be improper, he demanded the authorities concerned to understand the plights of the people.
Such step is against the welfare of the students and the college, he said, and added all classes have already commenced and changing the teachers at this time would only affect the rhythm of the classes, he added.
The protesting students shouted slogans demanding immediate withdrawal of the official order, and also held placards demanding that the Education department should cancel the improper transfer order. Other placards read “don’t destroy the sanctity of the college, don’t transfer teachers from this college, don’t destroy teacher’s student’s relationship and don’t spoil students’ right.”
