Housewife held for hacking hubby to death

IMPHAL, February 20: In a horrifying incident, a housewife knifed her husband to death following a heated altercation at Andro Khoibu Santipur under Andro Police Station, Imphal East on February 19 night.

The deceased husband has been identified as Chingakham Panchon, 47 son of late Apabi Singh of Andro Khoibu Santipur. He was stabbed to death by his wife identified as Puthem ningol Chingakham ongbi Tejbati Devi, 42.

Tejbati is the second wife of Panchon. The couple had tied the knot seven months back.

According to reports, the couple engaged in a heated verbal feud at their residence’s premises under the influence of alcohol which was heard by locals at around 9.30 pm. Out of a sudden, Tejbati took out a knife and hacked her husband on his neck. Panchon died on the spot.

After killing her husband, Tejbati rushed to the neighbour’s house of one Yumkhaibam Kullachandra, 48 son of Y Herochandra Singh, who is said to be the first husband of Tejbati. She was thwarted from entering the house by Kullachandra’s family members.

The reports said locals heard the screaming made by the housewife just after stabbing her husband to death.

The dead body was come across by locals late night. They suspected that Tejbati might have killed her husband in unison with Kullachandra.

Meanwhile, police have arrested Tejbati and Kullachandra following the incident. They will be produced before the concerned court tomorrow.
