IMPHAL, Feb 20: Expressing concern over the Cabinet decision of February 10, 2016 giving approval to rename ‘’Thangting SDO/BDO’’ as ‘’Kangvai SDO/BDO’’ and spontaneous and continuous protests spearheaded by Khousabung Sub-Division Demand Committee (KSDDC), the Kuki Students’ Organization (KSO) appealed to the government to put on hold any steps in pursuance of the decision.
In a statement, the KSO said the situation arising out of the Cabinet decision has the potential to vitiate the atmosphere of peaceful co-existence among the different ethnic tribal communities.
The decision was taken in total disregard to the wishes and aspirations of the people. The government should defer further proceedings of the decision, it said.
Until and unless a consensus is arrived at among the public concerned and the matter solved after due consultation of all the stakeholders, the KSO units stand by the principles of democracy and justice for all, KSO vowed.
It cautioned that any steps taken by the government contrary to the clarion call should be met with seriousness it deserves.
