IMPHAL, February 24: The Left Front, Manipur today staged a protest as part of the nation-wide protest of six Left Front parties called from February 23-25 against the arrest of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar from the JNU campus in New Delhi.
The protest was held at Irawat Bhawan which was also attended by senior leaders of the parties. The nation-wide protest is held under the theme “Defend People’s Constitutional Rights”.
The Left Front Manipur includes the Manipur State Council/ Communist Party of India (Marxist), Manipur State Council/ Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council/ Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation, Manipur State Council/ All India Forward Block and Manipur State Council/ Revolutionary Socialist Party (India).
Speaking at the protest site, secretary of Manipur State Council/ Communist Party of India (Marxist), Salam Sarat strongly condemned the arrest.
The said student is also a leader of All India Students Federation (AISF) the student wing of the Communist Party of India, he said.
He further said that the allegations hurled against the student leader are baseless, and he alleged that the attack to the institutions is a strategy of the Narendra Modi led BJP government in the Centre.
The plan has been made all the more clear since the series of incidents which have happened at the Film and Television Institute of India, Hyderabad Central University, IIT Chennai and the recent incident at JNU, New Delhi.
He charged the Narendra Modi led NDA government of trying to change the history of India with its communal polarisation.
CPI MSC state secretary Langol Iboyaima said that since the BJP led NDA has come to power, it has introduced several strategies to suppress secularism and democracy.
He further appealed to the people to stand together and face the problems created by the BJP led government.
