IMPHAL, January 3: The RIMS authority today discharged atleast 33 of the patients admitted from Lilong area with symptoms similar to cholera, even though they are yet to recover fully, according to local sources.

It may be mentioned that more than 200 persons from Lilong Chingjao and Lilong Nungei Villages were reportedly admitted at different hospitals and clinics with symptoms similar to Cholera since January 28.

The people had fallen ill reportedly after using water from a hand pump.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the discharged patients were re-admitted at the Lilong Public Health Centre.

On getting information of the development, a BJP Manipur team led by its general secretary (Administration) M. Asnikumar and BJYM president O Malesh visited the Lilong PHC this evening.

During the visit, Dr Antas, son of late former minister Allaudin Khan extended financial and moral support to the re-admitted patients.

Asnikumar said patients being discharged from RIMS and later getting re-admitted at the Lilong PHC is unfortunate.

He said minister Moirangthem Okendro who is also the spokesperson of the government had earlier assured various kinds of assistance including medicines from the government to the patients.

In total contrast to the assurance of the minister, the RIMS hospital authority today discharged atleast 33 patients who are now re-admitted at a PHC, he said.

It seems the government spokesperson can only provide lip service and nothing much, he said attacking Okendro.

This only shows the nature of our government and how irresponsible the present government and its Health minister are, he said.

He further demanded immediate action to ensure that the patients are well looked after and not neglected.

In case the government fails to meet the demand, it should be fully responsible for any deterioration in conditions of the patients, he said.

Md Mohazudin a local of Lilong Chongjao said we strongly condemn the Health director O Ibomcha Singh for declaring that the outbreak has been controlled and checked.
