Man rounded up, beaten for threatening villagers

IMPHAL, February 24: A man who reportedly threatened to kill villagers of Khoidum Pat under Kakching Police Station by showing pistol was rounded up by locals and beaten up for his deed today.

The injured man has been identified as Ningthoujam Santa, 35 son of N Ibohal of Sekmaijin Maning Leikai.

According to reports culled from the spot, works for erecting electric pole and placing wire in the village to ensure adequate supply of electricity was going for the last two months. A person namely Kakyenpaibam Sanjit, 40 of Sagolband Tera Amudhon Leirak Akham Leikai, who runs fish farm in the village disrupted the electric works in his farm areas.

The villagers with the firm objective of ensuring adequate supply of electricity in the village continued the electric works.

On February 21 around 3 pm, Sanjit along with his friend N Santa holding a pistol each came to the residence of a villager who took active participation in the electric works.

The reports said the duo threatened the villager to kill all those who engaged in the works, causing panic in the village.

Following the threat served, a public meeting was held at Khoidum Lairembi Community Hall on February 23 and strongly resolved to bar Sanjit from entering the village for whole life.

The meeting further resolved to foil any attempt of Sanjit and his accomplices to enter the village forcibly and bear sole responsibility by the individual for any untoward incidents arise thereof.

However, against the resolutions adopted by the villagers unanimously, Sanjit’s friend Santa sneaked into the residence of one of the villagers this morning around 8.

According to the reports, the villager was earlier threatened by the duo to kill.

On hearing the news that Santa again came to threaten the villager, women folks of the area rushed to the residence and rounded up him.

The women folks tied Santa’s hands and beaten up. On getting the information, a team of police arrived and took away him.

He was handed over to his family by the police and is undergoing treatment at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
