IMPHAL, February 10: The 17th death anniversary of the SDO of Kasom Khullen Dr Thingnam Kishan, Revenue Mandal Yumnam Token and driver Aribam Rajen would be observed at their memorial site at Gandhi Ghat, Uripok on February 17, Mapari Ningsingkol Lup (MANIL) chairman Soram Tikendrajit said today.

Addressing a press conference announcing the commemorative event at the memorial site today, he said the objective of the observance is to ensure that “the sacrifice of the three is not forgotten, so that it will help in building a better society.”

It may be recalled that the then SDO of Kasom Khullen sub-division, Dr Th Kishan and his two sub-ordinate staff were abducted and bludgeoned to death by some armed cadres of NSCN (IM) on February 17, 2009. They were abducted from Ukhrul and their bodies were recovered from a place in Senapati district.

Tikendrajit informed that the final hearing on the case filed by late Th Surendra father of Dr Kishan in the Manipur High Court praying to probe the alleged role of the then Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Pankaj Kumar Pal in the triple murder will be held soon.

The chairman urged the concerned authorities to arrest those culprits involved in the crime.

He was disappointed that the Centre has not arrested self-styled major Abo Siho and self-styled captain Johny of the NSCN (IM) even though they have been declared “wanted” by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

MANIL secretary Y Kapur, who was also present during the press conference, said during the commemorative event which will be held on February 17 at Gandhi Ghat as usual, floral tributes will be paid at the memorial sites of the three victims.

MANIL appealed to all concerned not to impose any bandh, blockade or general strike on February 17.
