IMPHAL, February 11: The Naga People’s Front Manipur unit president Awangbou Newmai today claimed that the political talks between the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India to find an amicable political solution has been ignored by successive governments of the State without any consideration of the genuine aspects of the Naga issue.

Speaking at a one-day party leaders orientation programme held at the Manipur Baptist Convention on February 9, Awangbou said that the principle and agenda of the NPF is to bring peace and justice to all in accordance with the law and rights of the people.

The NPF is committed to facilitate the Naga Peace Process and bring permanent peace in the region, he said.

The party strongly believes that resolving the Naga political Issue will bring peace, development and justice in the entire North East Region, he added.

He said that the party shall stand firm and see that the Manipur Assembly fully honour the constitutional provision which aims at bridging the political, economic and social gaps between the hills and valley.

To establish rule of law in the State is also one of the important agenda of the party, he asserted.

Newmai further said that even after Manipur became a State, the people continue to face many hardships due to frequent bandhs and strikes due to people protesting to register their grievances.

The NPF president alleged that the State sponsored terrorism which is killing innocents by State armed forces in the name of counter insurgency has become the state of affairs in Manipur.

Development has nosedived from bad to worse in the Hill Areas, he complained.

Schools and offices which were established about thirty years back have vanished today, he continued.

Most of the government officials fail to attend their offices in the hill district headquarters and sub-divisional headquarters, while there is still no political party to look into matter, Awangbou said.

He stressed that the various political parties in the State have failed to address the grievances of the poor people and some section of hill people are reduced to almost beggars.

The constitutional provision which aims at safeguarding the interest of the people are not translated in letter and spirit, he added.

All NPF MLAs and ADC members and state level and divisional level office bearers attended the programme.

The leaders of the NPF, MSU MLAs L Dikho and Samuel Risom and former minister Morung Makunga also attended the programme and spoke on the history and principle of NPF.

At the conclusion of the programme the participants expressed serious concerned on the non-issue of security guards to the NPF led ADC chairmen of Ukhrul, Senapati and Tamenglong
