IMPHAL, February 13: The Uripok Tondonsana High School Founder cum Parents’ Committee and the Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL) today organised a discussion programme on ‘Ram Krishna Mission School at Uripok Tondonsana High School’ at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
Speaking on the sideline of the discussion, IPAK chairman Sapamcha Jadumani who presided over the discussion, said the Tondonsana High School was established in the year 1959 and is the only residential government school in the Imphal West with a present students strength of around 300 students.
He said now Ram Krishna Mission School, a private school, is replacing the government school which is unfortunate.
He said this has come at a moment when the government should be implementing policies to upgrade government educational institutes in order to help the children of the poorer section gain education.
The State government has already abolished the government schools like Raja Dumbra Singh High School, Bengali High School, Tombisana High School and now is trying to do the same to Tondonsana High School, he said, observing that this will only affect the students presently studying in the school and their guardians adversely.
Lamenting that the government is planning to sanction about Rs 18 crores for the private school, Jadumani further observed that it would be more appropriate to use the amount to promote the government schools in the State.
The people are not against the opening of a Ram Krishna Mission School in the State, but it would be more welcoming if it doesn’t affect a government school which is still running, he said.
The private school may be constructed at another site, rather than demolishing the Tondonsana Government High School, he added.
Later the discussion decided upon four resolutions which includes that the people are not against the setting up of a Ram Krishna Mission School, but if the Uripok Tondonsana High School is demolished for its construction, then the people should join together to launch a massive agitation.
It was also resolved to demand the Ram Krishna Mission School authority to clarify before the public on the issue before February 25.
The public discussion was also attended by ex MLA Uripok A/C N Nodiyachand Singh, PANDAM president Y Dilipkumar, Uripok United Club’s Organisation presidentKh Heramani Singh, UNAL convenor L Lotika Devi and Uripok Tondonsana High School Founder cum Parents’ Committee executive member RK Manisana Singh as chief Guest and guests of honour.
