IMPHAL, February 9: Tension is running high between two villages in Tamenglong district after residents of the two villages were allegedly engaged in a gun-fight on Monday.
The gun-fight took place between villagers of Pungmon and Kharam villages near the rail line alignment work undertaken by the Bharatia Infra Limited and the NIPL camp near Ijei River.
Sources also informed that the villagers had engaged in physical confrontation.
Meanwhile, seriously noting the inter-village feud, representatives of the All Inpui Students’ Union (AISU), Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Manipur (ZSUM) and Kharam Students’ Union Manipur (KSUM) convened a joint meeting today at the ZSUM office in Imphal’s Namdunlong, a joint statement of the student bodies said.
The joint meeting of the student bodies strongly condemned the incident and said the student bodies are minutely discussing the unfortunate incident.
Expressing concern and grievances over the matter, the joint statement appealed to both the parties to bring an amicable and long-lasting peaceful solution through mutual understandings and negotiation.
“Peaceful co-existence among the different communities is sought for positive developments and upliftment of the area and its people where many developmental policies are being implemented by the central government,” the statement asserted.
