IMPHAL, February 16: The Zeliangrong Youth Front, ZYF has threatened to shut down all the Government offices in Tamenglong from February 16 to February 19 protesting against the ill treatment towards the district by the State Government.
In a statement, ZYF president Titus Kamei said that the decision to agitate against the State government was adopted during their executive meeting held on February 9, at Taihu (Karpursungba) village following the State government’s failure to respond to the memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister on January 23.
The ZYF has already submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister I Ibobi to relocat the government offices including Deputy Commissioner and other Allied District Level Offices at the District Secretariat within 15 days from January 23, it said.
The statement claimed that the district secretariat was constructed with an amount of Rs 36 crores and 26 lakhs and the said building was already inaugurated on November 3, 2011 by P Chidambaram, the then Union Home Minister, Government of India. Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and many Ministers, MLAs and other Government top officials also attended in the said inauguration function.
The ZYF have given enough time of more than four years to the State Government to relocate all the Offices at the District Secretariat but the State Government is only facilitating few contractors to flourish at the cost of the people of the district which is intolerable hence the agitation is inevitable, it said.
Step by step agitation such as banning of all National and International Projects undergoing in Zeliangrong areas, blocking of National Highways etc will be followed after the three days shutting down of Offices is over, it said.
The State Govt. has been robbing away the development fund meant for Tamenglong district for the last many years in collusion with unscrupulous selected contractors but on the other hand propagated equal development, it said.
The Manipur Chief Minister stating very often that the State Govt. wants to take up development works in the hills districts but due to fund constraint could not do so is strongly condemned by the Zeliangrong Youth Front in the interest of the people of the district since the reality and fact is that the State – Govt. failed to implements or execute any development works even though the necessary fund for it are sanctioned by the Central Govt, it claimed.
Only development works which are directly implemented and executed by different agencies under the supervision and monitoring of Central Govt. which is not possible for State Govt. interference are tangible, it added. The Zeliangrong Youth Front with the people will launch different forms of democratic agitations in order to get our rights and shares till the State Govt. come up with concrete assurance and fulfil, it said.
