IMPHAL, March 16: A book titled “Contemporary Socio-Political Movements in Northeast India” was released today at Laimayon Art Centre, Chingamakha.
The book is published by Jain Book Shop Publication and published for Centre for Manipur Studies (CMS), Manipur University. It is jointly edited by Professor MC Arunkumar and Dr Aheibam Koireng Singh.
Manipur University (MU) vice chancellor Professor H NK Sarma attended as chief guest, consultant to Government of Manipur Dr RK Nimai and former head, Audio Visual Research Centre, MU Dr Arambam Lokendra attended as guests of honour and School of Social Science, MU Dean professor N Lokendra attended as president.
Professor S Mangi Singh, department of political science, MU in his review of the book said that the book is an outcome of the three-day long International Seminar on Movements in the recent past and present Northeast India with special reference to Manipur which was organised by the Centre for Manipur students (CMS), MU on November 27 to November 29, 2015 under the sponsorship of the Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi.
He further said that the seminar addresses the relevant and stated themes based on movements; anti colonial, socio-religious reform, Diaspora, statehood, anti-foreign, religion and cultural renaissance, secession/ autonomy/ ethnic homeland and civil society etc.
Mangi told that the seminar culminated finally in this book which consists of 40 chapters from eminent personalities from various walks of life ranging from academia, activists, journalism and those in responsible government positions.
The book will be available at CMS, MU; PC Jain, Thangal Bazar and all leading book shops in Imphal.
