Cousin killer cop remanded to police custody

IMPHAL, March 30: The Sub-Inspector of the Manipur Police who allegedly shot dead his cousin brother has been remanded 6 days to police custody by the JMIC Imphal East today.

The accused identified as Laishram Birjit alias Chaoba, 28, son of Dr Laishram Ranbir, a sub inspector of the Manipur Police and presently attached with the 2nd Manipur Rifles, was produced before the court by a team of Lamphel police this afternoon.

During the court appearance, the police submitted informed the court that the weapon, 9mm bearing No15065774, along with an empty magazine and two live rounds, used in perpetrating the crime and other relevant articles have been seized by the police.

The police further informed the court that during preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted to have committed the crime adding that pleaded the court to grant police remand for six days, till April 4, for thorough investigation.

Subsequent upon the plea, the court also granted the remand.

In the meantime, the accused was holdup inside the court complex for over four hours with aggrieved party of the victim thronging the court with an intention to cause harm to the accused.

Birjit shot dead his cousin Chinglemba yesterday along Mayam Lambi road near Monsangei and later surrendered himself to the Singjamei police along with the body of the victim.
