IMPHAL, March 11: Chief Secretary O Nabakishore Singh today launched the 5Kg LPG cylinder as a free trade LPG commodity at the Classic Hotel. The cylinder as of now will only be available from RBD Indane Service located at Bamon Leikai, Imphal East.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, the Chief Secretary said that the 5 kg LPG cylinder is available in other parts of the country as a free trade LPG commodity since 2009, and from today the same will be available in the State.
This cylinder with lesser quantity will benefit those staying in rented accommodations like students and migrant workers as it will provide more mobility than the larger 14.2 kg cylinder, he added.
It is, however, expensive as compared to the larger subsidised cylinder, he said, explaining further that the cylinder will cost Rs 1475.5 with refill available for Rs 475.5, which is much expensive.
Nevertheless, considering its easy availability and mobility it will be convenient.
He further asked the other LPG distributors to provide the service.
He said LPG bullets are escorted by the CRPF into the State along with other loaded trucks. However, only 100 vehicles are allowed per such trip which hinders regular supply, he said.
He said during an online conference with the Cabinet Secretary, he had pressurised to increase the number of vehicles to 150 per trip.
Nabakishore said proposals for 22 LPG distributors for the hills have also been submitted.
He added the use of LPG in the hills will also help tremendously in saving the forest cover.
