Govt polytechnic teachers launch indefinite strike against appointment of technical education deputy in-charge

IMPHAL, March 3: The Government Polytechnic Teachers Association and Government Employee and Workers Association have launched an indefinite strike against the appointment order of Technical Education deputy in-charge, Tongbram Bhabeshor in the post of principal in-charge and controller of the Government Polytechnic.

Speaking to media person in a press conference held at the Manipur Press Club today, secretary of Government Employee and Workers Association, Takeshore alleged that the selection procedure to fill-up the vacant post of principal in-charge and controller was inappropriate.

He said that both the associations are demanding revocation of the appointment order at the earliest and to re-conduct selection procedure based on the seniority list.

He said unless the order in cancelled, the indefinite strike will continue.

He also said that the damages of the Government Polytechnic infrastructure incurred by the January 4 earthquake are yet to be repaired, despite a number of memorandums being submitted to the concerned authorities and the State government.

Due to the damages, classes of the Polytechnic were being conducted at the MIT classrooms, during the vacation of the later; however, now their classes have also resumed and as such normal classes are not being able to conduct, he added.

He further appealed to the concerned authorities to shift the MIT to another more suitable location. He added several memorandums have been submitted to the concerned authorities in this regard too; however, no response has been received from the government on this too.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) quality improvement schemes to improve quality technical education and infrastructure has not been implemented properly, he claimed adding that the damages of the infrastructure can be repaired by utilizing the funds from the schemes provided by the council.
