IMPHAL, March 31: A four-day long residential camp cum awareness programme on the theme “Save paddy land and save indigenous people in the four valley districts of Manipur” organised by the Indigenous Peoples’ Association of Kangleipak will commenced from tomorrow and will continue till April 4.
Speaking to media persons at its office, IPAK chairman Sapamcha Jadumani said that the camp is being organised with an aim to spread awareness to the people on the diminishing paddy land and influx of non-local population in the State.
Jadumani sought that it is the right time to spread awareness on the problems that the general local populace will face due to the increase in the population of the non-locals.
He observed that the indigenous people of the State will become endangered like in Assam and Tripura, if the people allow the unbridled entry of non-locals.
As part of the campaign, a 30-minute long street play on the theme “Loubukna Thawainee” will be enacted and pamphlets’ will be distributed, he said.
A wall poster campaign will be the main event of the programme, Jadumani said.
The camp will kick-start at Kwakeithel Mission Compound, Nongshaba on April 1.
On April 2, the awareness camp will be held at Moirang, Bishnupur, Nombol etc in Bishnupur district; in Thoubal district it will be held at Kakching, Wangjing, Thoubal etc. On April 3 it will be held in Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
The programme will be held at Khurai, Sagakpham, Koirengei, Tera, Patsoi, Lamshang etc in Imphal while the closing ceremony will be held at its residential camp located at Kwakeithel Mission Compound, Nongshaba (BTI) on April 4.
He appealed to the concerned organisations to exempt the artist and volunteers from the purview of bandh and strikes.
