IMPHAL, March 7: The Khousabung Sub-Division Demand Committee has temporary suspended its indefinite bandh called along the Tiddim Road from March 8, according to spokesperson of the committee Ngulsang Gangte during a press conference at Manipur Press Club.
He said the decision to suspend the bandh temporarily was arrived at following appeals from various students and social organisations in consideration of the student community especially those appearing their class X and XII examinations.
He said however, the indefinite bandh will be imposed with full force after the board exams, if the government fails to review the February 10 cabinet decision as demanded by the committee in its representation submitted to the government.
He observed, the government should however, not take the demand lightly as the bandh has been suspended.
Strong agitations will be launched if the government fail to cancel the naming of Kangvai sub-division and change it to Khousabung sub-division, he warned.
The State government and the local MLA in particular should be held solely responsible for any unwanted outcome, he said.
He mentioned that KSDDC has repeatedly pleaded, held democratic protests and memorandums submitted as per the resolution taken on August 24, 2014 by 100 village chiefs and people.
However, all such efforts have been deliberately disregarded by the government, he claimed.
Meanwhile, a separate press release issued by the committee’s information and publicity secretary has democratic protest (sit-in cum candle light vigil) at Khousabung has been continuing till date and marked its 25th day today.
It further said it is extremely pained that the State Government has deliberately neglected and ignored the people’s genuine demand for renaming the new Subdivision of Churachandpur district (erstwhile Thangting Subdivision) as Khousabung Sub-division with its headquarters at Khousabung.
The subsequent democratic protest demanding review of the biased and undemocratic State Cabinet decision of February 10, 2016 which gave approval to change the nomenclature of the new subdivision to ‘Kangvai’ has remained unheeded.
It appealed the organizations to extend support and cooperation in their endeavors for justice.
