JIRIBAM, March 21: As the other parts of the World, The Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Jiribam Branch, along with Media partner Jiri News Network (JNN) observed “World Poetry Day” today at Raja Ramohon Library Hall, Jiribam to appreciate and support poet and poetry around the world.
The observation was attended by many scholars and poets of Jiribam and neighbouring state, where they presented their poems.
The welcome address of the function was delivered by Naba Kumar Sinamcha, Gen. Secy., Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Jiribam and followed by keynote address delivered by Sarat Thokchom, Convenor, World Poetry Day, Jiribam. In his keynote speech he said that the poetry is the most influential thing in the society, through which a poet get the freedom of language.
Today’s observation of World Poetry Day was graced by Shri. S. Tanubabu Singh, Advisor, Manipuri Short Story Society, India; Dr. A. Gouramani Sharma, President, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Jiribam and Shri S. Khogendro Singh, Advisor, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Jiribam as a Chief Guest, President and Moderator respectively.
Meanwhile, Naharol Khorirol Sillup, Lakhipur Assam, also observed “World Poetry Day” at Ibudhou Khuman Lampaak, Lakhipur, Cachar Assam.
Longjam Gopendra, President Sillup, Wangkhem Saratchandra – Advisor, Barak Valley Meitei Convention, Engudam Binod- Gen.Secy. Senior Citizen Forum, Yumnam Nodiachand- Gen.Secy. Athouba ningshing Lup and Engudam Satischandra-translator were presidium members of the function. In today’s’ function Ilabanta yumnam moderated the certain poems read by 18 poets from different parts of Assam.
