Let’s stop imposing bandh, blockade for better future, urges MP Thangso Baite

IMPHAL, March 30: Member of Parliament (Outer) Thangso Baite has fervently appealed to the civil and student organisations to stop imposing bandh and blockade in the State for whatever reasons in order to set a good example to younger generation as well as in the society.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a newly constructed public ground at Chepu Yaolen village under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district today.

Chepu Yaolen village is located about 40-km away from the Imphal along Imphal-Ukhrul road.

Thangso urged the concerned organizations to refrain from imposing intense agitation like bandh and blockade instead come up with peaceful forms of agitation including submission of memorandum to highlight their plight.

Stating that bandh and blockade will only bring harm to the people as a whole, he pointed out that businessmen take advantage of such harsh agitation by selling essential commodities at skyrocketing price.

Dwelling on the environment degradation and deforestation in villages, the MP appealed to the people to plant and preserves more trees in the surrounding villages.

He said that the tribal people mostly depend on forest products for their livelihood.

Lauding the village leaders for constructing the public playground without taking help from the government side, Thangso Baite said that all round development depends on the people’s initiatives and support.

He exhorted village leaders of the surrounding villages to come up with more initiative to develop their villages like Chepu Yaolen village.

Thangso Baite exuded confidence that the public ground will provide common platform to organise sports events which in turn will bring unity, peace and integrity between the neighbouring villages.

Village chief of Chepu Yaolen Jamkholet Khongsai who was present at the inaugural function said that the public ground was constructed at an estimated amount of Rs 15-18 lakhs and the construction was started from 2013.

The ground measured 105 meter in length and 80 meter in width, he added.

Several village chiefs, student leaders, church leaders, police officers, Assam Rifles personnel and ADC members also participated in the function.

As part of the programme, a team of KSO general headquarter led by its general secretary Seiboi Haokip inspected the Chepu Yaolen Government aided LP school under ZEO Ukhrul.

The general secretary appealed to the concerned authority to upgrade the school to primary school level.

About 60 students are studying in the school, he informed.
