IMPHAL, Mar 12: A police constable has succumbed after consuming hair colouring chemicals on March 11 evening.
According to police sources, the decease is identified as Md Akbar, 30, son of Md Angou Khan of Phoudel Litan Leirak under Yairipok police station in Thoubal district.
Akbar was attached at the Wangjing police station.
The source said that on March 11, his sister had eloped with Mir Sharif, 20, son of Farid of Yairipok Changamdabi Mayai Leikai. However, she was rejected on the same day by Mir’s family, informed the source.
According to the source, Akbar’s sister went to the Yairipok Police Station alone to file a complaint and around 6:45pm, Akbar also came to the police station.
On hearing the news of his sister, Akbar went out, bought a hair colouring chemical packet and consumed it, informed the source.
He was taken to the Yairipok CHC, and after giving him some first aid to clear his stomach, he was refered to a hospital in Imphal and succumbed on the way, informed the source.
It is also learnt that Mir Sharif has been arrested by the police.
The body has been deposited at the JNIMS morgue for post mortem.
It may be mentioned that some years back, one of Akbar’s elder sister was also found hanging to death in front of her husband’s residence at Keirao after she was discarded by her in-laws a few months after marriage.
