IMPHAL, March 7: The JAC formed in connection with the alleged killing of Yumnam (n) Nongmaithem (o) Memicha Devi tried to storm the Chief Minister’s bungalow at Babupara this afternoon demanding revocation of the government order to cremate the Memicha’s body.
Memicha’s body was found around 10:30am of February 26 from Samaram Panthak Loukol in Thoubal district.
A large number of members and supporters of the JAC coming from two sides tried to storm the Chief Minister’s bungalow, however they were stop by the police near Nupilal complex and Sanjenthong bridge.
Later, the protestors staged a get-together at Sanjenthong.
The police team said that the Chief Minister was at a function and asked them to wait until the CM’s return.
The police block the vehicles entering towards Sanjenthong near City convention, creating much inconvenience for the commuters during the protest.
At around 4 pm, some selected JAC representatives were allowed to meet the CM.
The JAC has been demanding proper investigation and urging the government to award befitting punishment to those found involved.
They have also demanded to include a Rs 5 lakh compensation for the grieving family which should be provided within a month and a regular government job for one of the deceased’s daughters.
It may be mentioned that Memicha who is from Naharup Pangong Makhong is married to N Shyam Singh of Samaram Mamang Laibung Leikai.
