Seminar moots coordination, cooperation in agriculture

IMPHAL, March 7: A day-long State level seminar on the theme ‘’Role of Agriculture Cooperative in Poverty Elevation & Improving Food Security’’ was organized by NCUI – Cooperative Education Field Project, Thoubal in collaboration with Oriental Women Labour Cooperative Society Limited at Thoubal Kshetri Shanglen today.

The seminar held under the sponsorship of Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited was attended by Programme Coordinator of KVK Thoubal Dr M Thoithoi as chief guest; chairperson of NCUI – Project Coordination Committee, Manipur Jeena Potsangbam as president; president of Kakching GP Level MPCS Limited Ksh Ibohal and project officer of NCUI Project Thoubal Th Pahari as guests of honour.

Addressing the gathering in the first technical session of the seminar, Dr Thoithoi stated that cooperation amongst farmers is needed to accelerate the agriculture products.

He said that a farmer working alone for augmenting agriculture products will not bear desirable fruits.

Coordination and cooperation are vital in the field of agriculture as these are closely related to production of agriculture items, he noted.

He asserted that poverty alleviation can be achieved if farmers strictly adhered to coordination and cooperation.

Jeena Potsangbam said that the ambitious Food Security Act had already been implemented in some States successfully.

The act is slated to be implemented in Manipur from April 1. One thing which should be careful is about hygienic of food grains to be availed to the people in subsidized rate, she said.

She added that farmers are suppliers of food security, which the government should be aware of.

In the second technical session of the seminar, resources persons presented papers on relevant topics.

Maize crops were distributed to the farmers who participated in the seminar.
