IMPHAL, March 30: There is much challenge for concern in dealing with juvenile homes in counselling and dealing with juvenile of different forms via victims and perpetrators, said Prof MC Arun, Director of Centre for Manipur Studies, Manipur University.
He was speaking at a one day training programme on ‘POCSO Act 2012 & JJ Act 2015 and Basic Challenges of Counselling’’ held today at the conference hall of Anthropology Department, MU.
The programme was organised by Childline Imphal in collaboration with Department of Anthropology.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Arun observed that people working for juvenile home will encounter challenges while dealing with juvenile of different kinds.
He stated that children not only of the State but of the nation are victimised in different forms like wrongly adoption, child trafficking, disowned for physically abnormal, abuse and other forms of crime.
Addressing such victimization is another challenge that has to be deal with, he said.
The Professor also said that many children are victimised by group of people in the name of philanthropy.
He noted that significant level of care and protection for juvenile is still absent leading to increase in victimization of children in the State as well as in the country.
Vice-president of Manipur Mahila Kalian Samiti Meisnam Pramodini Devi who was the guest of honour of the function said that child trafficking and case related to children have been increasing day by day despite the advancement of the society. She further said that younger generation are more indulged in gadgets connected with internet where provocation to adultery inclines.
Promodini said that Indian judiciary needs to be more effective in dealing with cases related to crimes against children.
She lauded the concerned NGOs, juvenile homes, police personnel for showing concern towards child protection which in turn will help younger generation in building a better future.
The training programme was also attended by Prof S Jeebankumar, director of Childline Imphal as president.
