IMPHAL, April 1: Taking strong exception to the dismissal of the petitions filed by head constable Herojit and Sanjit’s mother in the Session Court on Sanjit-Rabina killing, working committee of Apunba Lup has sought support from the public to unfold the truth of the killing as the government prefers to remain mute on the case.
In a statement, Apunba Lup, a conglomerate of several civil society organizations said Sanjit’s mother Taratombi filed a case in the High Court on the killing following the confession by prime accused Herojit through the media.
However, the case was withdrawn and the petitioner was asked to approach the Session Court, it said.
Subsequently, Herojit and Sanjit’s mother filed separate case in the Session Court. Unexpectedly, the petitions were dismissed by the court on March 30, the statement said.
Irked by the judgment of the court, the apex body said time has come to keep a vigil eye on the development of the case.
The Session Court in its order clearly mentioned that approval to start further investigation into the case can be given if Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) approaches the court in this regard. But the investigation agency is remaining silent so far, saying it cannot handle the case without the court’s direction, it pointed out.
It reiterated that Union Minister Kiran Rijiju had assured to look into the development of the sensational case and give protection to Herojit following his confession but the people of the State are yet to see the assurance into action.
Asking the State BJP as to what the party has done on the killing case according to the public’s pulse, Apunba Lup lamented that the three pillars of democracy – Legislature, Judiciary and Executive are remaining as silent spectators to the infamous killing case.
There was mere discussion on the killing case in the recent Assembly session despite the confession of Herojit wherein he categorically recounted the ordeal of the killing.
