IMPHAL, April 23: The previous Central governments had never done anything significant for the North Eastern States since India got her independence, however, things have changed since the BJP led NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in the Centre, BJP Manipur president Th Chaoba said lauding the Centre on nominating Mary Kom as a member of the Rajya Sabha today.

Addressing a press meet at the BJP office, Chaoba said the nomination of woman sportsperson to a seat of the Rajya Sabha has only proved that the NDA government respects the women of the country especially of the NE States.

Mary Kom’s nomination will only encourage the implementation of the Act East Policy, he added.

He said the BJP Manipur Pradesh will organise a grand reception of Mary Kom after her return.

The women of NE States should respect the BJP for nominating a woman, he added.

Chaoba while speaking on the Food Security Act, said although one kg of rice is provided at the rate of just Rs 3 kg, others who are not beneficiaries who form more than 80 percent of the population will have to buy rice at the price of Rs 25.

He further claimed that the CAF and PD minister has failed to make a single statement regarding the issue.

Although according to the guidelines of the FSA 2015, the cards for the beneficiaries are to be allotted and distributed by the local bodies, in Manipur the MLAs are interfering and trying to distribute the cards themselves, he claimed.

Although no Fair Price Shops are opened in the State, the concerned minister has declared that the Act will be implemented in the State by April 25, which shows that the present government is working on its own whims.

The BJP would like to hold a discussion on the issue so that the intended people can get their share from the Act, he added.

He continued that the BJP will soon file a PIL against the MLAs and minister who are acting like goondas.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA Kh Joykishan, while lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi for nominating Manipuri Boxer Mary Kom as Rajya Sabha member, today said that it is a sign of BJP’s love for Manipur.

A statement of the MLA said Mary Kom’s nomination was a clear indication of the Prime Minister’s love and care for the people of NE States, particularly Manipur.

Narendra Modi’s choice of somebody from the state showed that the BJP government cares a lot for the Northeastern region especially Manipur, it said.

“This is the first time that an eminent sportsperson from the region has been nominated as an MP of the upper house. It is a matter of pride of the people of the region,” Joykishan said in the statement.

He said such a thing has happened only in the time of the BJP led NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He added that even though there were many eminent sportspersons who are more than qualified, the BJP government choosing Mary Kom has showed that BJP leaders were more concerned for the people of the region than Congress leaders who only talk but never acted.

The MLA also congratulated five times world boxing champion Mary on her becoming the new Rajya Sabha member.
