IMPHAL, April 15: A State Cabinet meeting convened today has approved to hold election of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) to elect its Councillors and Ward Development Committee Members on June 2.
Chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, the meeting was held at the CM’s Secretariat at 3 PM.
Informing about the meeting, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (RD & PR) and Economics & Statistics Minister Moirangthem Okendro who is also the government’s spokesperson said that the election is to be held in tandem with the scheduled fixed by the State Election Commission.
Accordingly, the draft electoral rolls will be published on April 18. After hearing claims and objection within April 22, the final electoral rolls will be published on May 2 while public notice will be published on May 12, he elaborated.
He further informed that the last date for filing nomination paper for the election is May 17 after which scrutiny will be conducted on May 18.
Timing of the election will be from 8 am to 4 pm. If need for re-poll arises then it will be held on June 4. Counting of vote will be done on June 6. All necessary works for the election will be completed before June 10, the minister explained.
He went on to inform that the meeting also gave approval to implement the ‘’24X7 Power for All’’ scheme under Government of India in the State as well with the objective of supplying adequate power current.
The scheme to be implemented under a framework between Ministry of Power, Government of India and Manipur State Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MSPDCL) envisages reducing loss of power current so that every household gets uninterrupted power supply, Okendro said.
Maintaining that there are 1034 census villages in the State, he said that a target has been set to supply power current 24 hours in every village in the State by 2018-19.
Today’s Cabinet meeting also decided to fill up 37 vacant posts of Technician and Para Clinical Staff at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) besides agreeing to give pension to those employees of different posts, who were appointed before February 28, 2006 after getting approval from State Finance Department under the District Council, he concluded.
