IMPHAL, April 1: In his first ever interface with the media since being relieved from the post of President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam claimed that everything is well within the Congress party and there is nothing to worry.
Gaikhangam was speaking to a group of media persons on the side lines of the 62nd Foundation Day celebration of the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal today.
He, however, refused to divulge anything on the likelihood of a cabinet reshuffle of the present government, saying that “it is an ‘internal’ matter of the party and it is best not to dig into it.”
Gaikhangam said it is the beauty of the Congress that it exercises ‘inner party democracy’ within the party itself.
“That is why we have given room to everyone to express whatever they have in their mind”, he said when asked about the present development with the dissident group in the party.
Gaikhangam also denied that possibility of a cabinet reshuffle was included in the agenda of his meeting which was held with the Chief Minister earlier in the afternoon.
“The meeting was about the development work, the present government has taken, and also in view of the financial year coming to an end”, he said.
He maintained that relieving him from the post of party president is according to routine procedure of the party. The high command of the party knows best and it is their prerogative to guide us, he said before repeating that “everything is well with the Congress party and the government”.
